Description

Ventrilo is a Voice Communication program for Mac and Windows (See the 'For Linux' section for more information) used generally in AG Games.

Q: Does anybody still use TeamSpeak?

A: No, nobody still uses it in Call of Combat anymore.

Downloading/ Installing

For Windows

Introduction/ Download

• First, open your web browser and proceed to www.ventrilo.com

• You are now on the official Ventrilo website. From here click "Download". (Located on the toolbar at the left side of the screen)

• From here, look under "Clients". You will be presented with 3 Windows downloads - Select your platform.

These are the 3 Windows options:

Windows i386 - 32bit - Win2000, XP, 2003, Vista, 2008 (Version 3.0.4)

Windows x64 - 64bit (Version 3.0.4)

Windows 9x - 95/98/ME (Version 3.0.4)

• Before downloading, make sure you save the file to a desired folder. Now, download the file.

Installation

• Once the file has downloaded, you will need to Install Ventrilo, just follow the instructions on screen, it's relatively simple.

• You have now installed Ventrilo onto Windows! You should now have a Desktop icon for Ventrilo, and also an option to open it in Start > All Programs.

Please read on to "Getting Started With Ventrilo" if you have not used Ventrilo before.

For Linux

(This section is based on a post by Solemn here.)

Introduction/ Download:

Ventrilo does not support Linux OS. Instead, you'll have to first download Wine, then the latest version of Ventrilo, for Windows Vista+. Install Wine (Sorry, this assumes that you have knowledge of installing Wine), and configure settings as needed.

Installation:

Next, open up a Terminal window and type:

mkdir ~/ventrilo
cd ~/ventrilo
cabextract /path/to/ventrilo-x.x.x-Windows-i386.exe

(Obviously, fill in '/path/to/' with the path to the downloaded Ventrilo.exe file, and replace the x.x.x with the version number)

Next open C:/Windows/System.ini (located somewhere in your Wine repositories), and add the following code anywhere:

MSACM.msgsm610=msgsm32.acm

Now you must obtain the file msgsm32.acm from a file-sharing website (Hint: Google the filename, and choose the first result), and copy that file to the directory ...C:/Windows/System

Running Ventrilo

To start Ventrilo, type the following lines into a Terminal:

cd ~/ventrilo
wine ./Ventrilo.exe

(You will have to do this every time to start Ventrilo, and you can not close the terminal window while using Ventrilo, though you can switch it to a different Workspace)

Troubleshooting

As with most Wine programs, Ventrilo encounters many problems, some of which are currently unresolved. You can, however search for patches at the Official Wine BugTracker.

Please read on to "Getting Started With Ventrilo" if you have not used Ventrilo before.

Getting Started With Ventrilo

Creating a Ventrilo Account

• First, click the "->" icon which has a got the number 1 next to it.

• From here, select "New". A text box will open. From here; Type your desired Username, and hit "Ok".

• You have now created a Ventrilo account!

Connecting To A Server

First, I will bring you back to this Image.

• This time, click the "->" with the "2" next to it.

• Once again, select "New".

• Type in the name for the server.

• Example, If it was KFG's Ventrilo you were going to connect to, you should name it "KFG" or "KFG Vent", or atleast something so you will know which server you are connecting to.

• Once you have done this, you will see:

DETAILS

Hostname or IP: The hostname or IP of the server you wish to connect to.

Port Number: The Port Number of the server you wish to connect to.

Password: If the server has a password, enter that here. If you have an account created for you on a server, you will be told your password. Simply disconnect and enter that password here.

Default Channel: Connects you to a default channel upon entrance of the server. If a channel is named "1234", put "1234" in this box, and it will connect you to that channel upon entrance.

• Enter the details for the server.

• Select "Ok".

• Now you are back at this screen:

• Click "Connect", and Voila! You are now connected to a Ventrilo Server!

Note: The default hotkey to talk is "Ctrl".
